The Nightcap Before Christmas

Collaboration is what ties community together. Coffee Potluck, together with Nemesis Coffee, presented the second annual Brews & Beats: a pop-up featuring coffee-inspired cocktails and curated sounds. This year’s edition saw smoke, fire, ambient aromas, and eerie lighting to create a Tim Burton inspired environment. Aptly titled “Vol. II: The Nightcap before Christmas,” the evening wove together dissonant harmonies and creative libations all in a hauntingly festive atmosphere.

The three feature cocktails included a peppermint mocha spin-off of the classic Irish coffee and a smoked apple cognac delightfully called “Snow White’s Elixir”. The highlight of the evening was a drink dubbed “Ode to My Love,” named after its key ingredient: Odd Society’s Mia Amata Amaro. The team at Nemesis, led by head chef Jacob Deacon Evans, created three dishes to pair with each beverage. Weaving sweet and savoury along with a myriad of textures, Evans’ dishes played counterpoint to the cocktails. Particularly noteworthy was the Cicchetti tonnato: a cured & confit albacore tuna with crispy chickpeas, fennel, and celery.

The drinks were crafted in collaboration with Propaganda Coffee’s Owner/Operator William Wang. Music was curated by Red Bull Music Academy Alumnus & Chapel Sound member Jade Statues. True to Coffee Potluck fashion, creatives of all different perspectives united to celebrate taste discovery, each bringing their own strengths to the table. Coffee Potluck’s community effort to create an epicurean experience necessitated collaboration, and imbibers did not leave disappointed. - Kris Wu (@k7wu)
